VIRGIN AUSTRALIA: Doha Velocity reward seats released
Virgin Australia has just released a bunch of Velocity Reward seats for its Brisbane Perth and Sydney to Doha flights using wet-leased Qatar Boeing 777 aircraft with QSuites.
Start dates are:
- Brisbane-Doha on June 19
- Perth-Doha from June 25
- Sydney-Doha on June 12
Virgin is calling it a tripling of reward seats. Speculation is that Virgin Australia has raised the number of seats from one to four per flight in Business Class.
These flights are available for flying through until 10 December 2025, but my advice is to get in quick.

Points required for Velocity Rewards seats
The very desirable Business Class QSuites can be booked for 89,500 Velocity points plus AU$989 in cash (to cover AU$247 in taxes and AU$742 in carrier charges).
In Economy, you can redeem 42,000 points for a seat, plus AU$441 in cash (AU$247 in taxes and $194 in carrier charges).
Here are some more details of the Velocity points required one way for seats in:
Economy:
- Brisbane-Doha = 56,000
- Perth-Doha = 42,000
- Sydney Doha = 56,000
Business:
- Brisbane-Doha = 119,500
- Perth-Doha = 89,500
- Sydney Doha = 119,500
Of course, plus those pesky cash taxes and airline charges.
How many Velocity Rewards seats?
Unsurprisingly, Virgin is being cagey about how many total seats in Economy versus Business Class are being released, and we have no idea what the base figure is being ‘tripled’. But we do know the new seats are available today Tuesday, 21 January.
Qantas is having a sale too
Over at Qantas, they are having a Surprise! 72-hour sale on domestic economy seats. The prices are good, but not great. For example, you can fly one-way to Adelaide from Sydney for AU$179, whereas, I consider AU$159 as a better sale price, which has been available recently. Mind you AU$139 for one-way Sydney-Melbourne is pretty good.
2PAXfly Takeout
After the Christmas holidays is always a good time to keep your eyes open for good fares. After the sell-out of flights over the holidays, perishable airline seats are harder to sell. This usually leads to some discounting on price, or some other deal like a double status credit deal from Qantas.
Nab some of those points redemption deals to Doha, although I would be keeping an eye out for points redemptions out of Doha to your preferred European destination too.
