QANTAS: Seasonal ski route Sydney to Sapporo, Japan for December 2025 on sale today
Qantas has announced today its seasonal non-stop route between Sydney and Sapporo, Japan, for the ski season commencing on 15 December. The route will continue until 28 March 2026, three times per week, using an Airbus A330-200. This route has been resurrected and was last flown in the pre-pandemic years of 2020.
Sapporo is the gateway to this northern Island’s ski fields at Furano, Niseko, Kiroro, and Rusutsu, as well as the hot springs towns of Jozankei and Noboribetsu.
“These new flights will save passengers hours of travel time compared to connecting in Tokyo or other cities and give them more time to enjoy on the slopes.”
Cam Wallace CEO Qantas International
The flights to Sapporo
If approved, this flight to Sapporo’s new Chitose Airport will become Qantas’s 100th destination. The 11-hour flight will depart Sydney around 9 am and fly nonstop to Sapporo on the island of Hokkaido, Japan, arriving around 6 pm local time.
Flights will be on Airbus A330-200s in a two-class configuration: Business and Economy. Qantas runs three slightly different configurations of this aircraft with between 26 and 28 Business class seats, and 208 to 243 Economy seats. Some configurations reserve up to five economy rows (20 seats) for crew rest on long-haul international flights.
The configuration planned for this route is 27 business class suites that convert to lie-flat beds in 1-2-1 configuration, with direct aisle access and 228 economy seats.
- QF107 departs Sydney 09:05, arrives Sapporo 17:55 (Monday, Wednesday and Saturday)
- QF108 departs Sapporo 19:40, arrives Sydney 08:35 +1 day
Prices for Economy Class start around AU$1,850 return, and over AU$6,000 in Business Class. These are the only non-stop flights from Australia and are priced at a slight premium over the one-stop flights (~AU$1,000 in Business, ~AU$500 in Economy).
This will be the fourth route Qantas runs between Australia and Japan. Currently Qantas runs double daily flights from Sydney to Tokyo Haneda and daily services from Melbourne and Brisbane to Tokyo Narita. Jetstar also runs flights out of the Sydney, Brisbane and Cairns to both Osaka and Tokyo.

Australians are currently having a love affair with Japan. I hope that this new route will take them beyond the very crowded tourist destinations of Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka.
Even if you don’t ski, you should consider staying at an Onsen Ryokan. You can take in the waters and the view.
