QATAR AIRWAYS: Q-Suite Guarantee – free flight change if not available
Some people believe this guarantee is mythical, but it seems real if you book a Q-Suites flight and an aircraft change leaves you on a flight without the renowned Business Class seats.
You won’t find this guarantee on the Qatar Airways website, but you will find evidence of it in communications to affected passengers, patched together by a number of flight blogger websites. Head for Points confirmed its existence as recently as 4 December based on the evidence of a reader.
How the Q-Suites Guarantee works
If Qatar Airways books you on a flight that would normally have Q-Suites in Business Class, but due to operational reasons, the aircraft servicing your flight does not have them, then they will send you an email. The terms offered are summarised below:
- Q-Suites Guarantee is only available in the rare circumstances when there is an aircraft change
- Qatar Airways will contact you if an aircraft substitution happens with a Q-Suites Guarantee Offer
- You can rebook on another Qatar Airways flight that does have Q-Sutes within 21 days of your original flight, subject to the following:
- Must be the same route as the original flight
- Must be within 21 days of original flight
- Waived ebooking fees and penalties
- Preservation of original fare cost and taxes
- Applies to all fare types, including ‘Business Lite’ fares
- Virgin Australia flights using wet-leased Qatar Airways (QR) aircraft are NOT included as these are not officially QR flights
There are several unconfirmed attributes of the guarantee, too. These include that if you are flying on an Avios points redemption fare, there doesn’t need to be redemption fare availability on the new flight. If there are subsequent changes to your flight, then the Guarantee may not apply. People claim that previous iterations of the Guarantee allowed travellers to change their departure city if it was within a 500-mile radius and in the same country, but this provision does not seem to have been preserved.
2PAXfly Takeout
This is good to know, especially if you have specifically sought out the Q-Suites. I have not had the pleasure of this experience. I have travelled on several Qatar A380s, which don’t have Q-Suites, and found their Business Class to be more than adequate. They may not have the privacy, but they are very comfortable, and you get the same Qatar service.
This acknowledges that some Business Class travelers are ready to pay a bit more to fly with Qatar Airways and experience their Q-Suites, and they would feel disappointed if the airline doesn’t meet their expectations. Airlines don’t always acknowledge consumers’ rights to receive what they paid for. It’s also just plain good PR.
So, the airline let’s you change your flight if the product they sold you isn’t what you’ll be getting. Awesome.
Veejay, I know. ‘Groundbreaking’
