EMIRATES: Melbourne to Singapore ends—replaced by third non-stop Melbourne to Dubai daily flight

EMIRATES: Melbourne to Singapore ends—replaced by third non-stop Melbourne to Dubai daily flight

Emirates will end its direct, one-stop flights EK404/EK405 between Melbourne and Dubai via Singapore on Sunday, 30 March 2025. This means one less option to travel the eight-hour trek between Singapore and Melbourne.

These flights to Dubai via Singapore allowed Emirates to pick up guests from Singapore. They gave guests the option of having a break in Singapore on the way to or coming back from Dubai.

The 3 am departure from Melbourne might not have been the most convenient, but it did get you into Singapore early, just after 8am.

Qantas Frequent Flyers took advantage

You could redeem Qantas points for these flights, which made for a great way to experience first class on the Boeing 777s, even if you were just venturing as far as Singapore. The redemption for the Melbourne to Singapore leg would set you back around 100,000 for First Class plus under AU$100 in charges. Not a bad price for eight hours in the plush First Class suites, with their accompanying champagne and caviar service.

Other flight options

If you are affected by this route’s cancellation, contact Emirates, Qantas, or your travel agent, depending on who you booked with. You will be offered alternative flights or a full refund.

There are still plenty of airlines servicing the Melbourne to Singapore leg, including Jetstar, Qantas, Scoot, Singapore and Turkish Airlines. Turkish are newcomers to the route, who travel between Melbourne and Istanbul via Singapore.

A third non-stop flight to Dubai

Those flight numbers are not disappearing, but will become a third non-stop flight to Dubai for Emirates, with different timings:

  • EK404 departs Dubai 21:15, arrives Melbourne 17:40 +1 day
  • EK405 departs Melbourne 23:55, arrives Dubai 07:00 +1 day

These flights will be serviced by four class Boeing 777, including Premium Economy, and will include Emirates latest Business Class seats

2PAXfly Takeout

Six of one, half a dozen of the other, unless you were keen to experience First Class between Melbourne and Singapore or wanted a Merlion stopover. It is also one less flight between Melbourne and Singapore to redeem your Qantas points with, but does get you to Dubai quicker.

    Hi 2PAXfly

I wounder if this is because of Qatar -Virgin direct service to Doha, cutting out Velocity to Doha, but only through Singapore – Doha ??

    Keep up the good work.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 2025

      Hi Bill,
Tempting thought, and not beyond the realms of possibility. However, I suspect the move is simpler and less Machiavellian. I suspect it is for a couple of reasons. First, The departure time from Melbourne was rubbish. Secondly, they were finding more demand for the direct Melbourne to Dubai route. Finally, probably not picking up enough passengers in Singapore to make it work.
