Background
Emirates first flew to Adelaide in 2012, suspending flights for the pandemic in March 2020. Emirates has already returned passenger services to Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney.
If you are a Qantas loyalist don’t forget that Emirates is a partner airline, although not a member of the OneWorld Alliance. That means you can book an Emirate flight under a Qantas codeshare which will have a flight code starting with QF8—. Not all Emirates flights are codeshared with Qantas. But if your’s is, then you will earn points and status credits as if you were flying with Qantas.
As with many secondary airports, the South Australian Government is subsidising the route. Why? Because it is expected to generate AU$160 million in tourism and freight revenue annually.
2PAXfly Takeout
I’m still an Adelaide boy, despite having lived outside that city for two-thirds of my life now.
This will be a great addition to the international carriers that already service Adelaide which currently include Qatar Airways and Singapore Airlines.
However, Adelaide was promised the brand spanking new Airbus A350s, but this does not appear to be part of the launch plan. Delivery delays?
