QANTAS: Melbourne to Perth 787 Dreamliner flights dropped

QANTAS: Melbourne to Perth 787 Dreamliner flights dropped

Looks like the ability to fly from Melbourne to Perth on an international Dreamliner ceases on 12 July 2024. Flight QF9 originates in Melbourne and stops in Perth on its way to London. But no more.

Qantas wants to make better use of its limited number of Bowing 787 Dreamliners. Qantas is dropping the Melbourne to Perth leg, according to a report in ET.

That nixes the opportunity to spend time in the Melbourne International First Lounge prior to your flight to Perth.

Travelling on the 787 Dreamliner between Melbourne and Perth was the preference for in-the-know travellers. It was the preference over the twin aisled A330’s and the dreaded single-aisle Boeing 737s. Although the Business Class on the 787 Dreamliner is virtually the same as on the A330. The Dreamliner is more contemporary, with higher pressure and more comfort, and a later evolution of the same Business Class seat.

Sydney to Perth

If you are Sydney-based, then you can still enjoy the Sydney-Perth sector (QF5/6) of the seasonal Sydney-Perth-Rome route (QF33/34) on a 787 and the newly introduced Sydney-Perth-Paris Dreamliner route. If you do a search on the Qantas website, you will see the Sydney to Perth sector appear as bookable. Mind you, you’ll pay for the privilege.

2PAXfly Takeout

No one prefers to travel on the 737s between the East and West Coast. A330s are the preference if you are travelling on Qantas, but the International Boeing 787 Dreamliners give you access to the Qantas First Lounge in Sydney. That’s a great way to start a domestic trip.

The only downside is that you need to bring your passport and pass through immigration control at the airport’s International wing.

Oops! Meant A330. Have updated and made it a little clearer now. Thanks for picking that up.
