VIRGIN AUSTRALIA: Last day to Status Match for Velocity Gold
Today is your last chance to status match with Velocity Gold for three months and possibly extend that to a full year. All you need to do is fly an eligible sector and earn 80 Status Credits in that three-month period, and Virgin will extend the match for 12 months.
But you need to act fast, because you only have until 11:59 pm on Friday 15 September to complete your application. Here’s how:
Fast-track Discover Gold trial membership – how to Status Match
This promotion is part of Virgin Australia and Velocity’s new partnership with Luxury Escapes. To be eligible, you must be an existing Velocity Frequent Flyer (Velocity) member prior to application. If you are not already, you can join the Velocity Frequent Flyer scheme here. Here are the major terms and conditions
- You must currently hold Gold Status or higher with any other Australian frequent flyer program – that’s a case of ‘how do you say Qantas without saying Qantas’.
- Processing your Discover Gold Application and applying your trial status may take up to 6 weeks. Don’t even think about asking to move your trial start date.
- To be eligible, you must click on the ‘Email now’ link on this page, which will open an email preset with the information you need to provide, including your full name, Velocity membership number and a photograph of your other (they mean Qantas) Australian frequent flyer membership card showing Gold status or higher by 11.59 pm AEST 15 September 2023. You must also use the email address registered to your Velocity membership.
- This promotion is not available to members that have held Status (this includes Silver, Gold and/or Platinum Status) with Velocity since April 2020 (Damn! that excludes me).

Virgin Australia is a good option if you suffer from Qantas Rage and want to try the alternate. Virgin Australia now has a competitive product, which, once you consider everything, is about the same cost, or sometimes cheaper for economy fares, and almost universally cheaper if you habitually travel at the front of the plane.
Virgin’s partner network is constantly being updated and now offers the ability to book earn and redeem frequent flyer points with airlines such as ANA, Air Canada, Hawaiian, Qatar, Singapore and United Airlines.
