EMIRATES: Confirms A350 for Adelaide and makes Sydney all A380 route
Emirates flies three times a day the 14 hours between Sydney and Dubai. Two of those flights have used A380s, with the third service a Boeing 777-300. But that all changes in about 6 weeks’ time
From 4 November 2023, flights EK416/417 will also be flown by the 489-seated Airbus A380. That puts nearly 2,000 additional seats across three classes on the route due to the double-decker superjumbo. Emirates now operates 63 weekly services to Australia or about 56,000 seats.

Australian cities served
Emirates currently devotes most of its Dubai flights to Melbourne and Sydney (three times daily). Brisbane is served by two flights daily, and Perth gets an A380 daily. Besides its flights to and from Dubai, Emirates also flies between Melbourne and Singapore and trans-Tasman between Christchurch and Sydney. That’s a flight I took about a week ago – expect a post about it soon.
The details of the new A380 service from Sydney is:
- EK416 – departs Dubai 21:30, arrives Sydney 18:20
- EK417 – departs Sydney 21:10, arrives Dubai 04:30
The third Sydney A380 flight will depart from Dubai at 2130hrs, arriving in Sydney at 1820hrs local time. The returning flight departs Sydney at 2110hrs, arriving in Dubai at 0430hrs local time.
Adelaide is next – confirmed
Earlier today I wrote that Emirates was proposing to debut its new Airbus A350s on flights between Dubai and Adelaide, a re-introduction of the route but with an all-new aircraft.
The Adelaide–Dubai service will commence in the summer of 2024, subject to successful discussions with Adelaide Airport.

Emirates, putting the bling to one side for the moment, operates an exceptional service, especially in Business and First which are the classes I have experienced on their A380s, my favourite plane.
Interestingly, In putting this post together, I came across a post back in 2017 when Emirates was running four A380 services a day into and out of Sydney. When that happens we will truly know that we are back to pre-pandemic services!
I’ve travelled in their business class several times, but had my first experience of First Class on their A380 only a week ago. It was extremely impressive.
The re-introduction of the service out of Adelaide will be welcome news to the residents of the city of Churches. Its almost a year away, but watch out for pricing when it flights become bookable. Adelaide is sometimes a sweet spot for airfares, sometimes cheaper than departing from the Eastern states, even considering a positioning flight.
