QANTAS: Los Angeles check-in now open from 2:30pm
ET is reporting Qantas confirmation that early check-in for evening flights from Los Angeles to Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney has re-opened, and is available for all passengers, irrespective of class from 2:30 pm each day.
Early check-in existed before but was paused during the height of the pandemic. It’s a great convenience for passengers who might have to check out from their hotel around midday, but don’t have a departing flight from LAX until the evening:
- QF16 to Brisbane, 9.35 pm
- QF94 to Melbourne, 10.05 pm
- QF12 to Sydney, 11.30 pm
You could spend your day at the airport or in the Qantas lounge, but better to drop those bags off at LAX, and then head back to LA for a meal and sightseeing, before returning to the airport well ahead of your evening flight.
Sydney Airport – all-day check-in at T1
Qantas has re-introduced all-day departures from the International Terminal in Sydney too. You could even drop off your bags from 4:30 am, and spend a few hours in the First Lounge (it opens at 5 am) having breakfast, before your morning international flight.

I remember having to arrive at Sydney Airport by 4:30am a year ago, just when international travel had re-opened. No lounge access, and although Fiji Airways provided a meal voucher, there was absolutely no food outlets open that we could find anywhere in the entire International Terminal. It was one of the most inauspicious beginnings for a fantastic holiday trip to Fiji. Thank whatever, that is no longer the case.
