Icelandic Air: Middle finger to the Meta-verse
If you are a follower of social media, you will know that Facebook has now been renamed ‘Meta’ and that Mark Zuckerberg who founded Facebook has declared his faith in the virtual reality ecosystem of the ‘Metaverse’, where he sees the future of social media heading and is backing that vision with US$10 billion.
To demonstrate what he is investing in, he showed a really bizarre video, which none of his PR team should have allowed to be seen, ever:
Iceland Trolls the Metaverse with Icelandverse!
Iceland is a pretty small country in terms of population, but they punch far above their weight in viral tourist advertising, and this is just another example.
My advice is to watch the Mark Zuckerberg video on Facebook (link in the caption below his image) until you can’t cringe anymore, and then move on to the much better Icelandverse promo ad. It’s much better, and also makes you want to travel to somewhere real.

This is another timely reminder to wear your seatbelt when seated. Holding you close to your seat will protect you from the sort of injuries sustained on this flight, when unsecured passengers flew to the ceiling of the aircraft, and then came crashing down once the ‘drop’ ceased.
The hope will be that this is an anomaly – a ‘freak accident’ in casual parlance. If it is a systemic error either mechanical or electronic, then this is a larger concern for the airlines that fly Boeing Dreamliner 787 aircraft. Let’s hope it isn’t. If it is, it will pile on the woes to Boeing’s existing stack.
I wonder how expensive it is to go to Reykjavik? Oooh! only AU$7,000 in business, with 2 stops and a total trip time of 51 hours!
Oh and that here image at the top of the page is care of Iceland Tourism.
