QATAR Airways: Daily flights to Sydney & Melbourne from 1 December 2021
Qatar is one of the few airlines that has maintained a scaled back service to Australia throughout the pandemic, including a Brisbane service, which the airline hopes to continue post-border closure.
For the moment, Qatar will be running 2 services to the recently re-opened border states of New South Wales and Victoria with services to Sydney and Melbourne respectively:
- Sydney-Doha: QR909 departs 9.45pm-10pm arriving Doha 4.35-4.50 am the next day – B777-300ER with Qsuites
- Melbourne-Doha: QR905 departs 10.55pm arriving Doha 5.20 am the next day – A350-1000 also with Qsuites
Qsuites
Yep, both flights get these stunning sliding doored business class cabins, both with dine-on-demand, and of course, access to the OneWorld alliance partner Qantas First Class lounges in Melbourne and Sydney.

This is another timely reminder to wear your seatbelt when seated. Holding you close to your seat will protect you from the sort of injuries sustained on this flight, when unsecured passengers flew to the ceiling of the aircraft, and then came crashing down once the ‘drop’ ceased.
The hope will be that this is an anomaly – a ‘freak accident’ in casual parlance. If it is a systemic error either mechanical or electronic, then this is a larger concern for the airlines that fly Boeing Dreamliner 787 aircraft. Let’s hope it isn’t. If it is, it will pile on the woes to Boeing’s existing stack.
Qatar Airways, preferably while sitting in one of their A380’s is my favourite airline. And, I haven’t even experienced their Qsuites yet. Something I hope to remedy once our international borders open for regular tourism.
