QANTAS: Points Auction
Oh my lordy! Someone is willing to pay 900,000 Qantas frequent flyer points to use a simulator!
The Qantas Points Auction launched today is offering a simulator experience of a Qantas 787-9 Boeing Dreamliner for an hour, with instruction from Alex Passerini, Qantas’ Chief Technical Pilot, or Lisa Norman, Qantas Fleet Operations Strategy Manager – who operated the first Perth to London flight.
Here is what the person who has the winning bid will get:
- pre-flight briefing
- one-hour session for two people in the e Qantas Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner Flight Simulator
- flight certificate and gift pack
- Simulator in Brisbane – does not include flights and subject to availability

This is another timely reminder to wear your seatbelt when seated. Holding you close to your seat will protect you from the sort of injuries sustained on this flight, when unsecured passengers flew to the ceiling of the aircraft, and then came crashing down once the ‘drop’ ceased.
The hope will be that this is an anomaly – a ‘freak accident’ in casual parlance. If it is a systemic error either mechanical or electronic, then this is a larger concern for the airlines that fly Boeing Dreamliner 787 aircraft. Let’s hope it isn’t. If it is, it will pile on the woes to Boeing’s existing stack.
Obviously, this is an exciting proposition for some frequent flyers, but not for this little black duck.
