Fiji: Direct flights start Adelaide – Nadi, twice a week
Fiji Airways commenced flying direct between Nadi and Adelaide, South Australia on December 21st. Fiji Airways already had direct flights to Fiji from Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney, so this adds Adelaide as the fourth Australian capital they fly direct to.
Flights
The new year-round flights are FJ961 Nadi to Adelaide and FJ960 Adelaide to Nadi, running Mondays and Fridays. The schedule is set out below:
- FJ960 departs Adelaide, Monday and Friday at 10 pm, arriving at Nadi the next day at 5:35 am.
- FJ 961 departs Nadi, Monday and Friday at 4:30 pm, arriving in Adelaide at 8:30 pm, same day
Both services are on Boeing 737-800’s.
Fiji Airways currently flies five times a week from Melbourne, daily from Brisbane and twice daily from Sydney. It’s then possible to connect with onward flights to San Francisco (now year-round), Los Angeles and Honolulu.

This is great news for Adelaidians, making it now possible to fly direct to Fiji, rather than having to transfer via Brisbane, Melbourne or Sydney.
I can even see myself flying to Adelaide to visit family, and then fleeing straight to Nadi, and returning to Sydney. As if!
While the 737’s are OK, much better comfort and recline on the business class, lie-flat Zodiac seats on the newer A330’s in Fiji Airways fleet.
Let’s hope that the current cyclone threat does not affect these or other flights beyond today (Saturday 28 December 2019)
