Virgin Australia – Fees glorious Fees! new ‘carrier charges’ for award redemptions

If you book a ticket using Velocity frequent Flyer points after January 1 2019 – then expect an extra $ slug.
If you are travelling to LA – then expect a AU$230 one way charge for business class reward flight on Virgin or Delta.
For Premium economy – expect AU$145, and for Economy AU$60
Here is a table of the new charges (velocityfrequenflyer.com):
Oh, and the kicker? You have to pay GST on the domestic carrier charges (unless a connection to an international flight)
The good news (?) Etihad Airways ‘carrier charge’ of up to US$300 per flight when using Velocity points to book an Etihad trip remains unchanged.
